Hallucinogenic mushrooms are found in relative abundance throughout the Northwest, an area where wild mushrooms in general grow profusely because of damp temperate climatic conditions. Many of these mushrooms, species of Psilocybe, Panaeolus and Conocybe, have growing seasons that span most of the year, although most fruit in greatest quantity when other larger species make their appearance in the fall. The authors have collected accounts of these ?psychedelics? from southern Oregon to Bellingham, WA, and while the range of many of the species extends into northern California and Canada, our research has been centered in these two states. In addition to second hand reports and our own extensive field work, we have included material from the scientific literature available.
