1st edition of 500 copies. Hi, I'm Kira Mardikes, an artist and illustrator from the Pacific Northwest organizing the first issue of Clorofilia, a magazine about plants.I feel that humanity's place in the natural world is more dependent upon plants than we often acknowledge. I want to publish a magazine that investigates the value of our interactions with our botanical allies using comics by American and Mexican artists, which delve into this theme. The origin of the name: Clorofila is Spanish for Chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants and algae. -filia is a play on Philia meaning Friendship or Love in Greek. The first issue comprises comics from 21 artists from Chicago, Oregon, New Orleans, California, Washington, New York and Mexico!Contributors include:Amara Leipzig, Asa Jones, Ben Passmore, Caesar Meadows, Caienna Birwerth, Danielle Chenette, Eric Brookens, Evelyn Salguero, Isabella Rotman, Kim Wayman, Kira and Tassie Mardikes, Megan Diddie, Megan Lavender Petri, Mich Artega, Sam Hubert, Sean Hernandez, Sun-EE, Talya Modlin, and Vreni among others. Printed at an environmentally conscious printing press, using recycled paper with soy-based inks.
