Perkins received an AB (Amherst College, 1964) and a PhD (Harvard University, 1969), both in biology. After working with the American Friends Service Committee for two years, he did post-doctoral work in history of science and technology at Harvard. Perkins then served as Principal Staff Officer for the Study on Problems of Pest Control at the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences (1971-1974). He joined the faculty of Miami University's School of Interdisciplinary Studies in 1974 and moved to be a Senior Academic Dean and Member of the Faculty at The Evergreen State College in 1980. Perkins resumed full-time teaching and research in 1986. He will become Director of Evergreen's Graduate Program in Environmental Studies in Fall 1999. Perkins was appointed Editor-in-Chief of NAEP's The Environmental Professional in 1995 and currently serves in that capacity for NAEP's new journal, Environmental Practice. Perkins says his major interest is in "learning how people should live on the earth. " He has a specialized interest in agricultural issues and the environment. Good. No dust jacket as issued.
